Biographie

Known to be the creator of the Saga Star Wars, George Lucas is one of the American film company’s directors which paid successful director and producer.

      The Beginning

George Lucas Jr. was born on may 14th 1944, in Modesto, California (USA). His father, George Lucas Sr. and his mother, Dorothy Lucas were the directors of a stationery store. Lucas grew up in the Central Valley town of Modesto. When he was young, Lucas is only interested in race car and he would be a car racer. But by the time, he was 18, he had an accident and he changed his mind, e decided to continue his study.
While he was a student at Brookdale Community College (in New Jersey), he began to have a passion for cinema and camera. That’s why, he enter to the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts where he made short  stories like Look at Life, 1:48.08, Filmmaker and 6-18-67

An other side of his job

If Lucas is a producer, screenwriter and a film director, he isn’t famous for his films or his companies but for the both.
He founded his first company in 1971: Lucasfilm Ltd. because of the debt he had to pay off to Warner Bros which produce the success less movie 1:48.08. He wanted to be independent from Hollywood’s Studios.
He also founded other companies such as Industrial Light and Magic and Skywalker Sounds in the mid ʿ70s, to improve the effects of movies like Star Wars.
He created also Lucasarts and Lucasfilm Computer Division which will be sold by Lucas to Steve Johns and will be the future Pixar.

      How his celebrity started

During the ʿ70s, though he shot nine films in the ʿ60s and directing six majors films, just 3 movies reach Lucas to the summit : THX 1138 (1971), American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars I (1977) which was a blockbuster.
When he decided to continue the Star Wars series with, in the early ʿ80s, The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and The Return Of Jedi (1983), he had already written and produced the Indiana Jones series which was realised by a Lucas’ friend: Steven Spielberg.
While he made a new trilogy of Star Wars , 16 years later, with The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack Of Clones (2002), Revenge of the Sith (2005), he produced the sitcom Clone Wars from 2003 to 2005 and in 2008.
And with all his films, he got 21 Nominations and won 23 Awards. Amazing!

With all he had made, Lucas is definitely one of the first men who improve effects to make the movies more realists.

“If the boy and girls walk off
into the sunset hand in hand
in the last scene, it adds 10 million
to the box office” G.Lucas
